OTHER LINEAGE’s

As a result of investigations into William James Shepherd’s German lineage, through using the FamilytreeDNA Family Finder test, other investigations into the lineages of his mother and his wife, going way back in time were also possible, including English, Scottish and Irish heritages.

Scottish lineage

As a result of the loss of the Battle of Culloden in 1746, and the associated post battle retribution by the forces loyal to the House of Hanover (i.e. King George II), the way of life for the Scottish Highlanders was destroyed – and never fully recovered. As a result, over a period of 100 years after the Battle of Culloden, many Scottish Highlanders emigrated to Canada, West Indies, Australia and New Zealand. Many “Family Finder” cousins related to William’s wife have been discovered in Nova Scotia (and other Provinces of Canada) and New Zealand / Australia.

As a result of atDNA Magnification (refer refer Chapter 10.9 of The King’s Son (The Evidence)), it was quickly discovered that William’s wife Scottish ancestors were highly “inbreed”. This means that solely using atDNA information makes it very challenging to determine which Scots lineage was related to the correct ancestor of her Scottish father.

Hence additional DNA data is needed using BIG Y testing, so that each male line “sub-lineage” can determined. For instance, there are about 15 different Cameron Clan lineages – which makes determining which Cameron lines his wife was actually related to.

Irish Lineage

This Other Lineages webpage and its sub-weblinks, also relate to William’s wife’s Irish ancestors. Her parents were Irish immigrants from Cootehill, County Cavan, Ireland.

His wife’s ancestors most likely left Ireland as a result of the deteriorating situation associated with the Irish Potato Famine

As a result of atDNA Magnification (refer Chapter 10.9 of The King’s Son (The Evidence)), it was quickly discovered that his wife’s Irish ancestors were also highly “inbreed”, which means that solely using atDNA information was also very challenging.
